All foreign citizens (except Nordic) coming to Iceland to study need a residence permit if staying longer than three months in Iceland. Some need to obtain the residence permit before arriving; some can apply after they arrive.

Inform the National Registry of your departure

Before leaving Iceland all international students must turn in a Notification of Change of Address in Iceland at the National Registry (where you applied for your Icelandic ID number). The form can be downloaded from www.thjodskra.is. Do not worry that the form indicates a change of address in Iceland; there is currently no form available for people moving away from Iceland. You can also fax this form to +354 569 2949 after leaving Iceland, but it is advisable to take care of this before leaving.
